AI photo editing software for solo sports photographers
Cull, edit and sort a youth game by player in one pass, then hand every family a gallery of their kid. One tool instead of three.

'Best software for photo editing' is one of the most-searched questions in photography, and for most photographers it has an answer: Lightroom plus an AI culler like Aftershoot or Imagen. For solo sports photographers it does not. A Saturday of youth soccer is thousands of burst frames, and the job is not done when the photos look good. It is done when every parent has found their kid. Today that takes three tools: an AI culler and editor, a jersey-number tagger like Fieldframe (€9 to €19/mo, no culling, no color editing), and a gallery and sales platform like ShootProof ($9.99 to $60/mo). Each one is decent. The handoffs between them are where the solo photographer's Sunday disappears. The jersey-number step is also where the tools break: as one sports shooter put it on Adobe's forum this September, numbers are 'occluded, motion-blurred or at an angle in a large share of otherwise usable frames, so you end up hand-checking anyway.' Rostershot is AI photo editing software built for that one job. Upload the card, pick the roster, and it culls the bursts, applies your edit, matches each keeper to a player by number, face and the frames around it, and publishes a per-player gallery that parents can buy from on their phone.
Why now
Every step of the solo sports workflow got its own product in the last few years. AI culling and editing became a subscription (Aftershoot, Imagen). Jersey tagging became one too: Fieldframe reads numbers, matches them to a roster and builds a searchable gallery, from free (1 event, 500 photos) to €19/mo. Gallery sales went commission-free: ShootProof runs from free to $60/mo and takes no cut. The photographer now pays three vendors and still does the glue work by hand. Vision models are now good enough to match a player across a burst even when the number is hidden in one frame, which is exactly the case that breaks single-frame OCR. The first tool that turns a memory card into per-player galleries in one pass owns the solo league shooter.
Market gap
The solo sports photographer buys culling and editing from one vendor, player tagging from a second and galleries from a third. Fieldframe tags numbers but, by its own feature list, does not cull or edit, and its paid plans cap at 1,000 photos per event. ShootProof sells and delivers but knows nothing about rosters. The AI editors make the frames look good but leave the who-is-in-this-photo step to the photographer. The gap is one tool whose unit of work is the game, not the photo: card in, per-player galleries out, with matching that uses the whole burst instead of guessing from one blurred number.
Proof signals
6 sourced proofs ↓Adobe forum: finding every photo of one player is still manual
A college sports shooter asked for jersey OCR in 2019. A September 2026 reply: numbers are occluded, blurred or angled in many usable frames, 'so you end up hand-checking anyway.'
community.adobe.com ↗ReviewFieldframe tags jersey numbers, but does not cull or edit
Reads numbers, matches them to the roster and builds a family-searchable gallery. Free for 1 event of 500 photos; €9/mo Starter, €19/mo Pro capped at 1,000 photos per event.
fieldframe.app ↗ReviewShootProof: galleries and sales with no commission
Plans from free to $60/mo and 'ShootProof will never take a commission.' Delivery and sales are a separate subscription from culling and editing.
shootproof.com ↗SignalFotoOwl: speed of finding your kid drives the sale
A sports photo platform claims (unsourced) that most parents decide to buy within the first hour of seeing a photo, and that fast number matching beats a cheaper slow gallery.

A photographer built their own culling tool in 2026 because the existing workflow did not fit how they shoot. Builders still scratch this itch themselves.

Thread on batch editing at volume. The main pro alternative to Lightroom for consistent batch looks, Capture One, is called out as expensive.

Pricing thesis · subscription
$29/mo sits under the combined cost of a tagger (Fieldframe Pro at €19/mo) plus a gallery plan (ShootProof Standard at $19.99/mo), before counting a culling and editing subscription. One bill, less work, and 0% commission matches ShootProof so it is not a reason to stay.
