Photo editing software is a crowded consumer category, but the solo real estate photographer has a very specific version of the problem that the category leaders don't solve. Every listing is 25 bracketed shots that need HDR merging, window pulls, vertical correction, color, a few sky swaps, then export and delivery to an agent who wants the gallery today. Done by hand that is 3 hours 10 minutes per 25-image listing (PixelShouters' workflow breakdown); at 15 listings a month it is 22.5 hours in Lightroom (Shhots). The two escape hatches both have a catch. Outsourcing to PhotoUp costs $1.50 to $2.25 per photo with a 24-hour standard turnaround, so a Tuesday shoot ships Wednesday. AI batch editors like AutoHDR are instant but priced for studios: $265/mo for 500 photos, with a 10-photo free tier that a solo shooter blows through in one bathroom. And the generative AI editors that came after got a very public reception on Hacker News: 'not one of the photos stays true to reality' and 'fraud as a service', because they redraw windows and floors. The gap is an instant, reality-faithful editor for the solo operator: fidelity-only edits (merge, pull, straighten, color, sky), a branded MLS-sized gallery and invoice sent to the agent from the driveway, at $49/mo. Curbside is that product.

Why now

Three things converged in 2025-2026. First, AI editing stopped being exotic: iGUIDE's 2026 outlook puts 71% of real estate photographers on AI tools, and Gitnux counts AI enhancement in 60% of real estate edits, so nobody needs convincing that a machine can merge brackets. Second, the generative wave overshot. 4ditor's May 2025 Show HN drew 'not one of the photos stays true to reality' and 'fraud as a service' from commenters who pointed at redrawn windows and flooring, and MLS boards enforce truthful-advertising rules that make that kind of edit a liability for the photographer, not the tool. Third, the price ladder has a hole. AutoHDR starts real usage at $265/mo, PhotoUp's managed editing runs $1.50-$2.25 a photo with a 24-hour wait, and Twilight-style AI at $15-$89/mo does edits but not delivery. Nobody sells the solo shooter a $49/mo seat that edits faithfully and delivers the branded gallery plus invoice before they leave the driveway. That gap closes the moment an incumbent adds a solo tier with delivery, so the window is roughly 12 months.

Market gap

Real estate photo editing splits into three shelves and none fits the solo shooter. Managed human editing (PhotoUp at $1.50-$2.25 a photo, 24-hour delivery) is reliable but slow and scales cost with volume. Studio AI (AutoHDR at $265/mo for 500 photos, 10 free) is instant but its floor is above what a photographer doing 5-10 listings a week will pay, and it stops at the edited file: delivery pages and invoicing live in a separate $49/mo Aryeo Pro seat. Generative editors (4ditor, Twilight-style prompt tools) are cheap and fast but redraw structure, which is exactly what MLS truthful-advertising rules and HN commenters reject. The unclaimed shelf is fidelity-only AI editing bundled with branded delivery and invoicing, priced for one person at $49/mo: the photographer shoots, uploads from the car, and the agent has an MLS-ready gallery and the invoice in 20 minutes.

Twilight: DIY vs outsourcing vs AI cost comparison (2026)

Shhots: real estate photo editing outsourcing, 2026 costs and math

15 listings x 30 photos = 22.5 hours of editing a month. AI turnaround 'under a minute' to 20-30 min vs 24-48h offshore. 'An agent who can list Tuesday morning instead of Thursday afternoon gets two extra days on market.'

Pricing thesis · subscription

Flat $49/mo for 400 photos beats the per-photo meter the solo shooter is used to: PhotoUp's on-demand rate would be $600-$900 for the same volume, AutoHDR's entry tier is $265/mo, and Aryeo Pro charges $49/mo for delivery alone. Bundling editing plus delivery plus invoice at the delivery-tool price point makes the switch obvious, and the $99 Solo Plus tier captures shooters who add twilight and staging without moving them to a per-seat plan.

Execution plan

Week 1-2: ship the editing core as a web app: upload brackets, deterministic HDR merge + window pull + auto-verticals + color, a style profile learned from the photographer's past deliveries, MLS export sizes. Week 3: branded delivery page and Stripe invoice sent to the agent in one click; free 'MLS-safe editing checklist' lead magnet. Week 4: launch in r/RealEstatePhotography and the real estate photography Facebook groups with the 'edited in the driveway' demo video; founder DMs to photographers posting PhotoUp turnaround complaints. Week 5-8: weekly user calls, style-profile tuning, twilight conversion, first 50 paying solos. Month 3: paid search on 'real estate photo editing ai' and 'autohdr alternative', partner with two MLS-photo compliance trainers, target 200 paid seats.

r/RealEstatePhotography, real estate photography Facebook groups, YouTube channels that teach flambient workflows, DMs to photographers complaining about editing turnaround, paid search on 'real estate photo editing ai' and 'autohdr alternative', local Realtor association vendor tables.

Pitch

Brackets in, MLS-ready gallery and invoice to the agent in 20 minutes, from the driveway. Faithful edits only, nothing invented. $49/mo, no per-photo meter.
